Animal's Savior

I looked at all the caged animals
in the shelter, the cast-offs of
human society.

I saw in their eyes love and hope,
fear and dread, sadness and
betrayal, and I was angry.
"God" I said, "this is terrible!"

"Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment,
and then He spoke softly,

"I have done something"
He replied, "I created you."

The Way of Love

Who is this independent soul
that follows me around each day?
My even-tempered tabby cat,
who loves me in her silent way.

She never climbs upon my lap,
her terms are set... I do not beg;
She's just content to lie close by,
or gently brush against my leg.

In her own little kitty way,
I realize how she's taught me--
her love extends across the room
when I'm in her sweet company.

Lost & Abandoned

I’m lost. I’m abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.
I am the one that looks at you through cages,
And waits for a kind word,
Water, food, and just maybe your hand to touch me
So I can feel a little secure,
That my loneliness and fear
Would subside for just a little while.
I am the lost. I am the abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.

I come to you filthy, scared, and bewildered.
I come to you in all shapes and sizes.
I come to you with a broken heart and yet still trust that maybe,
Just maybe, you will understand my plight.
I am the lost. I am the abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.

Teach me, and be with me
And don’t let them say I am shy or too dirty.
Teach me and I will be most loving and kind.
Don’t say like you have said too many times,
“There is not enough room and we don’t have the time.”
Please set an example and let others know that I am worthy.
If You don’t set the example how will others know?
I am the lost. I am the abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.

If you hold me so precious within your sight,
Others will see me and it will work out alright.
Don’t you know, don’t you see?
My heart is breaking… please help me.
Don’t do as before and say it all right
It never will be if you take my life.
I am the lost. I am the abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.

Keep me out of the cage; give me a nice place to stay
I am not a criminal. I just went astray.
Keep me out of the cage; give me a nice place to stay
My heart is breaking because my owners left me today.
I am the lost. I am the abandoned,
I am the eyes that look at you every day.

Baggage

Now that I’m home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed.
I’d like to open my baggage, lest I forget,
There is so much to carry – so much to regret.

Hmmm…Yes there it is, right on the top –
Let’s unpack loneliness, heartache and loss,
And there by my leash, hides fear and shame,
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave,
I still had to unpack my baggage called pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me.
But I wasn’t good enough for they didn’t want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do – I’m so tired, you see.
But I do come with baggage – will you still want me?

A Dog Owner's Prayer

O Lord don't let me once forget
How I love my trusty pet ---
Help me learn to disregard
canine craters in my yard.

Show me how to be a buddy
even when my sofa's muddy,
don’t allow my pooch to munch
postal carriers for lunch.

Shield my neighbor's cat from view'
guide my steps around the doo,
Train me not to curse and scowl
when it's puppy's night to howl.

Grant I shan't awake in fear
with a cold nose in my ear'
Give me patience without end ---
Help me be "A Dog's Best Friend!"

A Dogs Soul

Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride.

Where he decides the good and bad,
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgment carefully
Is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for
Himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.

He'll love, tho' he is unloved,
And he'll serve tho' badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he's abused.

Altho' his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding Soul!

A Dog Without a Soul?

.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:.
How could it be what some men say,
That the dog has no soul? No way!
How can God create them great and small,
And leave out the greatest gift of all?
When you look into their eyes
What is it that you see?

Isn't it caring and love,
And the essence of personality?
The soul is our Mind, Will and Emotions.
How could it be they have no devotion?
Have you ever noticed?

Can it possibly be
That God gave them a soul like you and me?
So how can one say the dog has no soul,
When God created them to love and hold,
To show you love and lick your face,
As a loyal friend to the human race?

A Pet's Prayer

My people are so precious, Lord;
I know You think so, too...
And I believe you put me here
To love them just for You!

They take such gentle care of me
And have such tender hearts...
Please use me, Lord, to comfort
them Whenever teardrops start.

They face a lot of battles
As they live & work each day...
They need me, Lord,
To make them smile
And show them how to play!

The world is full of people,
But sometimes real friends are few...
Please let my love & loyalty
Remind them, Lord, of You.

And when my final moment comes,
Lord, tell them as we part...
I was a made-to-order gift
From Your great, loving heart!

A Prayer For Animals

"Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends
the Animals, especially for animals who are suffering ;
for animals that are over-worked, under-fed and cruelly
treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat
their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or
destroyed or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to
death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and
for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be
true friends; to animals and so to share the blessings of
the merciful."

Are Animals In Heaven?

In Genesis we read how God created the sky and the seas,
And then He created the fish, the birds and the bees.
All the animals were all created one by one,
And when He was through, and when He was done,
He created Adam to name them all,
Giving them names great and small.
So why would the animals that did no wrong
Not be with God when their days are gone?
If the lion will lie down with the lamb
And Jesus, on a white horse, will come for man,
Then how can one say without any doubt,
That the animals would be so left out?

Cats

-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-__-:¦:-

Cats are playful,
Like children in fur coats.
They purr and hiss,
And growl from their throats.
Cats come in color,
Yet are fine in black and white.
They sleep alot
And sometimes even fight.
Cats are beloved
By young and old alike.
But, most of all,
They are precious in God's sight.

CREATION

When God had made the earth and sky,
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees

And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name.

And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth
and in the Sky and Sea,
the little creature said "Dear Lord,
there's no name left for me."

Kindly the Father said to him
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
And called you DOG, my friend".

A Letter to My Dog
(Just For Fun)

Dear Dog,

Since you seem to have so much trouble processing the English language no matter how loudly it is spoken to you, I thought perhaps I could clarify a few things.

First, please allow me to assure you that you are not starving. In fact, if the newspapers bothered to publish a canine version of those irritating "body-mass indices" that my daughter so delights in reading aloud to me, I'm sure we would discover that you've got far more waddle in your walk than is strictly necessary. The way you visually track every bite of food I take, with a trembling expression of frantic pleading, is most annoying.

Speaking of walks: We've been taking the same route around the same block for nine years. For you to sob, whine, and tremble every time I get out your leash is just crazy.

And would you please stop rolling in road kill? Dead animals smell like...well, like dead fish. There is a reason I give you a bath every single time you roll in something--it is NOT a coincidence.

Here's a news flash: Our next-door neighbors LIVE THERE. They have a right to be in their own yard! Stop barking at them through our windows! Your crazed fury is especially irritating in view of the fact that when you actually encounter them in person you flop on your back and let them rub your tummy. As a guard dog, you're about as intimidating as a gerbil.

The following are not digestible: Balloons. Crayons. Socks. I can show you evidence out in the yard. Stop eating them; they are not food!

I do not mind rolling down the window for you when we are in the car. I don't even mind that the air rushing up your nostrils makes you sneeze. What I do mind is that you always pull your head into the car to share your sneeze with the back of my neck. Keep your head in or out, that's all I ask.

Our front door is three inches of solid wood; you cannot tunnel through it. Stop clawing! Don't we always let you out when you need to go?

The bushes in the back yard cost a lot of money, but there is nothing of value hidden under them. Stop digging for buried treasure!

The stuff in the trash can is not your food. Oh, and your expression of shocked innocence when we accuse you of dining at the garbage buffet is not nearly as persuasive as the forensic evidence left strewn around the kitchen. Stop blaming the cat; she doesn't eat anything that costs less than a dollar an ounce.

When I say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two dogs in the way.

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.  Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed.  I am very sorry about this.  Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort.  Look at videos of dogs sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.  I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but doggy sarcasm.

And another thing: I do not wake up at the same time every day! On days we don't work, we're allowed to sleep past our normal waking time. Stop licking my face because your internal clock says it is time for breakfast. Don't dogs DO weekends?

My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom.  If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open.  I must exit through the same door I entered.  In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dogs butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

Look, you do make me crazy sometimes. But I suppose I have to admit that even though you're lazy (you probably won't even bother to read this letter!) and don't seem very bright, you do have your positive attributes. You're the only one in the family who will get up and pace with me in front of the window when it's past curfew and my teenage daughter is parked in the driveway with her date. You're the only one who likes my cooking, and you share my opinion that we don't need a cat. After nine years of living with you, I suppose life just wouldn't be the same without you. Wanna go for a walk?
